What is an advance medical directive?

What is an advance medical directive? | Freilich Law | Michael Freilich | | (410) 321-0040

In Maryland and many other states it was authorized by uniform statute although they’re not necessarily uniform from state to state, they have minor revisions and changes in them, an advanced directive is like a power of attorney. You give the power to someone else to make decisions for you. You also indicate when they get that power and it’s limited to medical and medical decisions only. So for example, should you be in an endstage condition, do you get pills? do you get hydration? Do you get sustenance? Those types of things. It also indicates if you’re pregnant, what should happen to you as opposed to the fetus or to the fetus as opposed to you. Again, you need to review it with an attorney who is familiar with these and frequently I recommend clients run them by their own internist or physician to make sure it does what they think it does.
