What happens if the house is not ready for me to move in on the day of closing? | Freilich Law | Michael Freilich | freilichlaw.com | (410) 321-0040

Check with your real estate attorney and the first place you look is the contract of sale. What does it provide in terms of either holding off settlement, delaying settlement, or moving settlement? What does it relate and require in terms of a pre purchased walk through? How was the partition of the property? Typically, closing will be postponed a few days. This may incur some significant expenses, it may not. You may or may not have the right to walk away from the transaction depending upon how the deal was written, and the real estate attorney whose looking at it, and the jurisdiction in which you’re located.
